FEMCO MODEL HLS55 HIGH SPEED PRECISION CNC LATHE

Featuring:

  • The FEMCO HLS55 is designed to meet the demands of heavy cutting and interrupted cuts. The huge turret casting incorporates an oversized curvic coupling. The HLS55 can cut from 1/16” to 21.3” diameters and up to 29” lengths in a wide variety of materials.
  • The 12 station turret is a proven and a mature design. It’s bi-directional turret and selects the shortest path to the next tool thereby minimizing non-cutting time. The main casting housing is oversized casting and incorporates a large curvic coupling.
  • The Bed is designed at a 30 degree slant and made from Meehanite cast iron. Heavy ribbing in strategic locations as determined by computer finite analysis assures consistent accuracy and excellent finishes.
  • The Bedways are heavy duty BOX ways
  • The Headstock is a precision machined close grain Meehanite casting assuring precise alignment of the critical spindle bores. The spindle is supported by six class 7 precision bearings that are grease lubricated. The large 5.2” bore permits up to 4.6” bar stock.
  • The Fanuc 40/30 HP AC spindle motor provides power for heavy stock removal and minimizes the number of necessary roughing cuts. The powerful AC Digital Spindle Drive system gives fast spindle acceleration and excellent low end horsepower and torque. The gearless spindle is designed for low maintenance and eliminates spindle vibration ensuring the best surface finish.
  • Both the X and Z axis are driven by double nut high precision ground ball screws. Both the ball screws are supported on both ends by angular contact thrust bearings. This double support design assures excellent positioning accuracy and repeatability and minimizes thermal growth. Both axis are driven by Fanuc AC digital drives and motors providing a MTBF (mean time between failure) of five years.
  • Lubrication is automatically metered to the guideways, ballscrews and tailstock quill. A low level alarm is generated which prevents the machine from restarting if the oil level is too low.
  • The HLS55 is equipped with a high volume type coolant pump motor. The 12-station turret uses several methods of directing the coolant exactly where it is needed. The tool holders, have been designed to allow the user determine the way the coolant can best be utilized. For ID holders the coolant is directed through the tool (such as needed for deep hole boring applications). The holder can use flexible coolant lines, which come out of the size of the holder. If a sleeve is being used, the operator can direct coolant under or above the tool. For OD holders, the operator simply blocks the ID hole and directs coolant to the OD tool.
